A Rustle and Clink (Snippet Sunday 12.4.16)

Welcome to Snippet Sunday on Darkling Dreams!

Where writers come together to share a few sentences (8-10) of their current project — whether it’s a recently released novel, a WIP (work in progress), or an older manuscript that’s being revived. Intended to hook readers, gather feedback and build an author’s fan base, Snippet Sunday is the FB group that does all three.

November and NaNoWriMo are over, and I’m proud to say I came out with a win. December is upon us but I’m not at all ready for the snow and cold, I’m wishing we could skip it, as well as the holiday madness. But it’s the last month of 2016 so it better be the best one for it’s our last shot. Since one of my goals for this year was to finish Fated to Darkness — and NaNo still didn’t finish it — I’m hoping to finish it this final month. Which means I’m going to continue to share from it this month as motivation.

In last week’s snippet we left off with the end of Chapter 7, the first chapter in which Heather returned home after Ciara took her and turned her a witch. This week we’re going to skip ahead into Chapter 8. Unfortunately, Ciara has come back for Heather and once more dragged her off for another lesson in magic. They are now down in the dungeons of Ciara’s manor.

Now for the first peek at Chapter 8: Shifting Fear…

~*~*~*~

Ciara set the torch in a bracket next to the door, turning to look at Heather. “You’ve learned the basics of controlling that magic and calling it up. Now you shall learn how to use it for more than just pathetic swirling balls of raw dark magic.”

She looked confused a little, but mostly still wary and fearful of what was about to happen to her. “H-How?”

A wicked grin crept up Ciara’s face and Heather’s stomach dropped out at what it might be promising. “You’ll see in but a moment.”

She waved her hand over the lock on the door and Heather heard the bolt snap back. She wished she could learn that trick, then maybe she might have some luck of getting away from this woman at times. Ciara swung the heavy wooden door open on black iron hinges that squealed a little too eerily in the roaring silence.

Inside the cell it was pitch black and a little damp. Musty air made Heather crinkle her nose as it whooshed into her senses with a shivering gust. A rustle and clink of chains toward the back of the cell made Heather wonder if someone was there, though her eyes had yet to adjust to the lack of light to see if she was hearing things or not as Ciara pulled her inside.

~*~*~*~

Is there someone in the cell? If so, who? And why are they there? Most importantly though: What does Ciara want her to do? So much mystery…

Fated to Darkness Cover Final

Blurb:
Three year old Heather Fraeis is like every other normal toddler. With a loving family, a family dog, and a little bit spoiled.

But fate can be a twisted and cruel friend.

Kidnapped on the night of her fourth birthday by a woman clad in black, Heather is whisked away to a realm that has never been known to exist. Forced into a life she doesn’t want as her kidnapper’s Heir, she comes to find that monsters do in fact exist, nightmares are more than bad dreams, and magic is more than just the thing of fairy tales.

Lies, fear, secrets, and pain await her around every corner. Swallowed whole by the dark path laid out before her, she is forced to fall with no light at the end of the tunnel to give her hope. Until she meets a young boy that may change everything once more for her…

Can Heather defy all the odds and overcome who is she forced to become? Or will it be too late for her to rise above the fate laid before her?

This story is not yet on Wattpad because it is my baby that I hope to publish one day, and if no one will publish me, I am self publishing. But it’s also not on Wattpad because it’s in first draft phases yet. So there will be no “if you wish to read more…”

However! If you wish to read anything else that I have out for free, you can hop on over to  my profile on Wattpad and check out what I have to offer. Or if you wish to read my debut release, Embermyst, you can find out more about that in the tabs above. (I’m working on the tabs, bare with me.) I love to hear any and all feedback on my work as well. Comments are greatly appreciated, as are the reads. You can also find me on my Facebook author page to keep up to date with all that’s going on in my writing.

And if you’re looking for some other great snippets of fellow authors,

    • I love that line myself. XD And thanks for the tip, it is duly noted. Most of this is completely unedited minus what I do when I set up the snippet and give it a read through, so all tips are welcome.

      Thanks for reading, Ed! :)

    • Thank you! I do love my descriptions. And as for the unknown entity… Well…let’s just say an entity behind that door might have been the better option, but I won’t say why. You’ll find out next week what’s behind it. ;)

      Thanks for reading! :)
