Welcome to Snippet Sunday on Darkling Dreams!
Where writers come together to share a few sentences (8-10) of their current project — whether it’s a recently released novel, a WIP (work in progress), or an older manuscript that’s being revived. Intended to hook readers, gather feedback and build an author’s fan base, Snippet Sunday is the FB group that does all three.
I am going to continue sharing from my first ever novel Breaking Point through the rest of June before switching to something else in July again. Breaking Point is an adventure novel that for once has no elements of fantasy.
Previously on Sunday Snippets: Our main character, who has yet to be named, has taken a ride through the forest on her horse Midnight, and has found herself racing a buck through the foliage. Midnight and his rider have veered off the path somewhere and have now found themselves in a uncharted part of the forest they have never seen before.
Picking up right where I left off from last week’s snippet.
(Some sentences may have been creatively edited and punctuated to try to fit the ten sentence limit. I’m over, again. Can we just agree that my snippets will always be a little longer but not too long?)
~*~*~*~
My heart thumped in my chest as I realized this guy was probably a kidnapper. My hands were shaking as I gathered up the reins tight and lightly urged Midnight to the side. I tried to keep my movements as subtle as possible, lest the bad guy get my idea of running and make a move for that gun. Midnight continued to prance but obeyed me, moving slightly as to position himself away from the stranger.
“You can’t run.”
I froze in the saddle at the stranger’s words. His voice was deep and commanding, and a little scary if I was honest with myself. Within it loomed the threat that whatever he said, he would stick to. There’d be no jokes or broken promises from him.
Hesitantly, I glanced back at the stranger and stammered out, “W-What?”
The stranger just looked at me, a small grin playing at the corners of his mouth. “I mean what I said. You can’t run, you have nowhere to go.”
At his words, the sound of clip-clopping hooves echoed around me. Coming from out of the woods all around the clearing was a band of horses and riders. I looked back and forth between the riders, real terror blooming within me. There had to be a total of twelve of them in all at first glance. They were all evenly spaced out around the clearing, close enough together that they could block my path by the time I would make it to the trees.
He was right, I wasn’t going anywhere.

And cue the cliffhanger! I’m evil. Next month I’ll be switching back to Fated to Darkness for Camp NaNo, then maybe after that in August I’ll come back to Breaking Point if you guys reaaaaally want me too.
This story is not yet on Wattpad either as it is another unfinished work and unedited as well. I refuse to put up anything that is unedited. One day I hope to finish this book, but my focus this year is Fated to Darkness.
However! If you wish to read anything else that I do have finished, you can hop on over to my profile on Wattpad and check out what I have to offer. I love to hear any and all feedback on my work as well. Comments are greatly appreciated, as are the reads.
And if you’re looking for some other great snippets of fellow authors,
hop on over to Facebook and check out Snippet Sunday!
Oh, you are evil! LOL! Great cliff hanger!

Thanks. I’m trying to find something to work, but right now everything is hinging on little details. I’m not sure how it’s going to work out. As for leaving you hanging… You’ll be hanging on this one for a month anyways! I was switching back to FtD for July’s Camp anyways next month. Don’t worry, you only have to wait till August to find out what happens. *Cackles*
Thanks for reading, Joyce! :)
