Welcome to Snippet Sunday on Darkling Dreams!
Where writers come together to share a few sentences (8-10) of their current project — whether it’s a recently released novel, a WIP (work in progress), or an older manuscript that’s being revived. Intended to hook readers, gather feedback and build an author’s fan base, Snippet Sunday is the FB group that does all three.
Wow, where did May go? Welcome to June, everyone! I am going to continue sharing from my first ever novel Breaking Point through the rest of June before switching to something else in July again. Breaking Point is an adventure novel that for once has no elements of fantasy.
Previously on Sunday Snippets: Our main character, who has yet to be named, has taken a ride through the forest on her horse Midnight, and has found herself racing a buck through the foliage. Midnight and his rider have veered off the path somewhere and have now found themselves in a uncharted part of the forest they have never seen before.
Picking up right where I left off from last week’s snippet.
(Some sentences may have been creatively edited and punctuated to try to fit the ten sentence limit. I’m over, again. Can we just agree that my snippets will always be a little longer but not too long?)
~*~*~*~
My panic began to mount. Surely, someone was playing games with me right now. There couldn’t really be something out there.
Or so I thought.
My eyes caught a flash of movement to my right followed by more heavy thuds of hooves. I gasped, looking towards the flash of movement. At the last possible second I caught a flash of dark brown and a tail before it disappeared into the trees.
I could have sworn I had just seen a horse, but there couldn’t be any other horses out here. Not in this eerie part of the woods. No one in their right mind would come all the way out here, whatever here was.
CRACK!
There it was again. Only louder this time. Midnight neighed in protest, dancing around as he chewed his bit. I could feel the tense set of his muscles below my seat. He was ready to bolt at the next sign of noise or movement; and I didn’t blame him.
~*~*~*~
Just who or what could be making the noises that are following them?

This story is not yet on Wattpad either as it is another unfinished work and unedited as well. I refuse to put up anything that is unedited. One day I hope to finish this book, but my focus this year is Fated to Darkness.
However! If you wish to read anything else that I do have finished, you can hop on over to my profile on Wattpad and check out what I have to offer. I love to hear any and all feedback on my work as well. Comments are greatly appreciated, as are the reads.
And if you’re looking for some other great snippets of fellow authors,
hop on over to Facebook and check out Snippet Sunday!
Great imagery. I’d bolt too. :)

The more scared she is the more scared her mount will be. I’m curious about the other horse. Rider or riderless? Tacked up or just got loose from somewhere?

Very true, and she knows that. I guess you’ll have to come back next week to see if it’s another horse or not, I’m not spilling the beans. ;)
Thanks for reading, P.T.! :)

I think she should continue moving forward. It doesn’t sound like a great place for a break.

I thought I read this and commented, but my comment disappeared. So here it is again…I like the descriptions and I’m glad she has Midnight.

Sometimes websites can be a royal pain in the arse, can’t they? LOL. I’m glad you like the descriptions, and Midnight is one reliable horse and companion to her for sure.
Thanks for reading, Nancy! :)
